Subtraction is removing a number from a bigger number, like, removing 2 from 3 or 4 from 5. You can always subtract / remove a smaller number from a bigger number.

Suppose there are 5 members in your family – father, mother, a brother, a sister and you. How many?

Now suppose your father went to his office. How many are at home?

Answer: 4 (5 -1 = 4)
